Yesterday, our little girl called her dad in tears because she had left her wallet on the bus! We were all upset, and in her innocence, she asked if she would get it back. Not wanting to hurt her feelings more, I told her it was very unlikely.
When we got home, a young man started knocking on my door, which upset the babies. I asked him, “Can I help you?” He said he was looking for AK. Curious, I asked, “Who are you?” He explained, “I found her wallet on the bus and wanted to return it. Everything is still inside, even the money. I went through something like this a few weeks ago, and I know how terrible it feels.”
I was really touched by his kindness. My dad gave him some money from his pocket as a thank you. I didn’t want him to leave without giving a little more, so we talked for a while, and he really touched my heart. I reached into her wallet and gave him the $20 that was inside!
It turns out the young man, named Baxter, is 19, goes to school in New York, and is the son of a co-worker. What a small world! His kind gesture completely changed my outlook and made me believe in the goodness of people again. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Perkins, you should be so proud because he’s now like family to us!
