What a scary week it has been.
Our daughter was taken by ambulance from school on Wednesday morning after showing seizure-like symptoms.
Sadly, our local hospital was very slow to act. After almost four hours there, they finally tried to place an IV so they could run tests. On the first attempt, the nurse damaged her vein, which made my 10-year-old panic and she became very upset and scared.
Then another nurse spoke rudely to my husband and me, saying “they are only human.” But that doesn’t excuse the long delay, where we felt like nothing was being done for hours while our child was waiting in distress.
We asked to leave and take her somewhere else.
We then went to her regular doctor, where she was checked properly and had tests done. Thankfully, everything came back normal, but they are still treating it as a possible seizure situation.
She had a follow-up appointment on Thursday and was cleared to return to normal activities with caution. She will also have blood tests and neurology appointments in the future.
But today, she is excited and ready to get back to the field and do what she loves most — playing softball.
