How can you survive an attack by a boa constrictor?

Mateo Elijah

Well, here is something you need to know about constrictors. Once the snake coils you, it’s extremely difficult to get off the death grip and you would need assistance of at least a couple of people if not more to uncoil the snake and release you from its jaws.

A constrictor doesn’t have venom but it has very powerful teeth which are recurved and pointing backwards. The snake always locks on its jaws before coiling over you and the jaws are very difficult to be released from due to the recurved teeth which locks on to your flesh in the opposite direction so trying to pull your body part out is counterproductive because it’s going to tear your flesh apart. You actually need to push your hand or whatever body part that is caught in the snake’s mouth before you can release it. The teeth in the pictures further demonstrate what I am describing here. You have to push your hand/body part further into the snake’s mouth before releasing it and you need people to assist you or your odds are very slim.

The constrictor snake anchors itself on to its victim before it starts squeezing you to death and those teeth are extremely powerful and difficult to unlock once it locks on to you.

So the idea of “ just try and uncoil the snake “ doesn’t actually work in practice because it has its jaws locked on and the more you try and uncoil the snake, the more it will try and coil back around you again.

You obviously need extra help or some kind of weapon which you can still operate while caught in the jaws and getting squeezed.

The teeth of a constrictor are very dirty and swimming with deadly bacteria so even after rescue, you need treatment and tetanus jabs and antibiotics so you don’t get infected.

But before all that, you need to find a way to release yourself from its jaws and those recurved teeth and that is not easy.

If you are ever under the grip of a constrictor’s jaws, don’t ever try and pull it out because you are going to shred your flesh that way. The more you try and pull out, the more you are getting locked into its teeth because of the recurved shape.
