This black mamba was witnessed killing a lion with ease, while most animals would normally stay clear of Africa’s top predator.
Most venomous snakes in Africa and Asia, including cobras, mambas and vipers amongst others, are armed with a venom so potent it can kill a fully-grown elephant or any large mammal like lions, tigers and occasionally humans. Thus said, very few animals are immune to snake venom – these include small critters that feed on venomous serpents, like mongooses and hedgehogs.
Consequently, when bitten by a venomous snake, an animal as large as a lion or a tiger will surely die from the venom. However, some individual cats, like this leopard cub, are agile enough to avoid snake bites, while the cold-blooded serpents, which lack stamina, are defenseless against the felines’ claws and fangs. So, the reptiles would rather choose flight rather than fight.
