For almost two weeks

Mateo Elijah

For almost two weeks, a young female bear wandered with a large plastic jar stuck on her head. She couldn’t eat and could barely drink.

Weighing only 70 pounds, she traveled for miles looking for help, always managing to stay ahead of rescuers. Attempts to catch her with traps and track her location didn’t work — until one day, a family at their cabin saw her looking weak and thin.

They called wildlife officials and kept her in sight until help came. She was safely sedated with a dart, and the jar was removed. Amazingly, she had no wounds — only signs of hunger and dehydration.

She was moved to a quiet forest, where she woke up, ate berries, and walked away free — her life saved just in time.
