My sister went to Australia to visit our folks. She walked daily to the beach that was near our folks’ house. One day she saw a small crowd milling about on the road to the beach. When she got near the small crowd, she saw that there was a koala climbing a telephone pole. Ever the helpful one she asked the people who were taking photos of this poor Koala if they shouldn’t put him on a gum tree where he belonged.
“You go right ahead and give it a go!” said a local. So my sister decided to try. She walked over and tried to grab the beast. He made some loud grunting noises as soon as my sister touched him and swiped at her with a paw making some kind of bellowing sound. Wisely my sister beat a hasty retreat and the local was snickering at her when she passed!
I think she was lucky. I had a chance to carry a semi-domesticated Koala in a preserve and ended up with three long gashes on my back when he was startled by a loud noise while in my arms. I can only imagine what would have happened if he had been angry at me!
