Steve Jobs was diagnosed with a curable case of pancreatic cancer and screwed it up.
Instead of opting for invasive surgeries and appropriate oncology therapies, he opted for alternative magic beans and paid dearly for it.
In fact, instead of the usual aggressive bout of pancreatic cancer, in which his future is usually doomed, he was relatively lucky:
GEP-NETs are slow-growing tumors that have the potential to be cured surgically if the tumor is removed before metastasis.
But Jobs—possibly slightly influenced by the power of his own decision-making over the years—was straight to the point:
“Instead, he tried a vegan diet, acupuncture, herbal remedies and other treatments he found online and even consulted a medium. He was also influenced by a doctor who ran a clinic that advised juice fasts, bowel cleansing and other unproven approaches, before finally having surgery in July 2004.
Jobs suffered from the only fully curable form of pancreatic cancer, but as someone who was used to being in control, he took his future into his own hands, ignoring classical medicine in the crucial period after diagnosis.
And we all know what happened.
