This officer tells you to turn around so he can put handcuffs on you.
This officer is sworn in as a witness. The defendant is black. How do you think the Jury will treat this officer’s testimony?
You called the police after someone raped you. This officer shows up to take your report.
During a job interview this candidate says “Yea, I used to hate the cops, but now I want to be one…”
I know I hear you say “But, but but, those are extreme examples!” Not really. The one place you can never cover up during a job interview, on a witness stand, out making contact, is your face.
What good is a cop that can’t appear and testify?
EDIT: 05–02–2024: I’m sorry I did not directly answer the question.
ANSWER: Why possibly yes. First you will have to find an attorney willing to take your case on a contingency. On the other hand if you are rich, and if you are willing to plunk down a bunch of cash for a retainer, that won’t be a problem.
Second, if you do, you can file the case. The Police will most likely not wish to settle. Next comes the hard part. Finding 9 out of 12 Jurors (Depending on jurisdiction) that you can get on the Civil Jury to agree with you.
Finally, you realize if the police win you will be required to pay the agencies legal expenses.
EDIT: Lots of great comments including the ones that accuse me of being a racist, an “FJB” person, or just being obnoxious. I should clarify that I am NOT talking about my opinion of facial tattoos but rather the public’s perception. In particular a cop with anti social tattoos appearing and testifying before a jury. If a police officer destroys his own credibility with anti social tattoos, on their face that person is worthless. Maybe 20 years down the line, that might change. But right now I can understand why an agency would pass on hiring a candidate with facial tattoos.
