In July 2017, police performed a welfare check at the home of Bruce Roberts, who hadn’t collected his mail in weeks

The property was surrounded with barbed wire and scattered cans as a primitive security system, while the door was locked from the inside. After forcing entry, they were confronted with piles of boxes, newspapers, luggage, and trash from the floor to the ceiling. They found Roberts dead, his decomposing body slumped over a live radiator.

A year later, when cleaners came to the house to clear it for a sale, they made a second grisly discovery — the mummified body of a man Roberts had killed 15 years earlier.
