What’s going on with Bruce Willis? He’s doing 3 or 4 movies a year, and most are terrible. Why would he close out his career this way? (I assume he didn’t lose all his money with Madoff or something.)
Bruce Willis was never the same after his divorce with Demi Moore. Honestly I noticed a giant shift from his personality after that event.
Imagine the shame, the cold hard revelation that you lost your wife to a guy young enough to be your son!
Anyway, sometime after that event, his career hit the skids after 2012. Appearing in movies like Looper and Moonrise Kingdom seemed to offer hope of a career resurgence after his terrible movie catalogue post Unbreakable (The Kid, Rugrats Go Wild). Unfortunately, that never happened and most movies he is in now are direct to DVD trash.
The reason? He is notoriously hard to work with and burned so many bridges that nobody wants to work with him in mainstream films anymore outside of Die Hard.
Bruce Willis always was notorious for phoning in his performance if he felt that the movie was below him (a lot of them, honestly) and he was always argumentative and uncooperative with directors when he was told to do things he did not want to do. (Kevin Smith absolutely hated working with him during Cop Out.) Thanks to his belligerent behavior, nobody wanted to hire him anymore. He was even fired from further sequels in the Expendables thanks to how annoying he was on set with everyone. Willis had been upfront with producers about how he only cares about money now and does not “give a shit about acting anymore.”
