Today is Jasmine’s 14th birthday. In just two days, she will face a gift no child should ever have to receive — relief from a leg that has grown so dangerously large it has taken away much of her childhood.
Her surgery is scheduled for Thursday at 8 a.m.
The anxiety is high — for her parents, for Jasmine, and for everyone who has cared for her through this long and painful journey.
The operation will remove her left leg along with the massive tumor that stretches from her waist through her abdomen. Doctors have said it may take the whole day. Her organs and lungs are being compressed, she is resistant to antibiotics, and she relies on a morphine pump just to stay comfortable.
Her family made a remarkable choice — they donated her leg for research, with the hope that one day doctors may be able to identify her condition. Only one other similar case exists in the entire country.
Her dad wrote:
“The uplifting comments and prayers haven’t stopped and we are thankful. From a hurting father to you… a massive THANK YOU from the Ramirez family.”
Let’s all send Jasmine kind birthday wishes and messages of luck for her surgery this Thursday.
