My husband probably won’t be thrilled that I’m sharing this, but some moments are just too beautiful to keep to yourself.
Tonight, we were at Walmart, standing in line to check out, half-distracted like everyone usually is. That’s when we overheard a young guy talking to the cashier. He couldn’t have been very old—maybe a teenager, maybe just starting adulthood.
He said, so simply and proudly,
“I worked all summer, so I told my mom she didn’t have to spend a single penny on my school supplies this year.”
That one sentence stopped us both.
Before I could even process it, my husband stepped forward, shook the young man’s hand, and quietly paid for all of his school supplies. No big speech. No showing off. Just respect.
Alan has always believed deeply in hard work and personal responsibility. He told the young man to keep going, to stay focused, and that his future could take him anywhere if he continued on that path.
I’m not sharing this just to brag about my husband—though I’m incredibly proud of him—but also to brag about that amazing young man. His determination, his love for his mom, and his willingness to work hard instead of expecting handouts were inspiring.
In a world where we’re constantly flooded with bad news, anger, and division, this small moment of goodness was exactly what my heart needed today. ❤️
