Jean-Claude Romand was a French man who lived a life full of lies for 18 years. He told everyone he was a medical doctor working with the World Health Organization in Geneva. His wife, kids, parents, and friends believed every bit of it.
But in reality, Romand never even finished his second year in medical school. He spent most of his days pretending to go to work, hanging out in parking lots, and using the time to maintain his web of lies.
He used fake investments and borrowed money to fund his lifestyle, but by January 1993, the lies were catching up with him. People were starting to ask questions, and Romand knew his secret life was about to come crashing down.
So on January 9, 1993, he murdered his wife by hitting her with a rolling pin. The next morning, he calmly watched cartoons with his two kids before shooting both of them. That same day, he visited his parents and shot them too, along with their dog.
He later tried to kill his mistress and then attempted to k1ll himself by setting the house on fire and overdosing, but he survived and was arrested.
Motive: He killed everyone to cover up the shame of being exposed as a complete fraud.
He was sentenced to life in prison in 1996.
