On September 16, 1997, in the late evening, Brittney was playing outside the Village Manor Apartments home of her family. Around 7:30 p.m., she went outside to ride her bicycle. Around 8:30 p.m., Brittney’s mother Tina Stetler left to run errands and saw her daughter riding her bicycle around the neighborhood.
Five minutes after their mother left, according to Brittney’s half-brother, he saw his sister sitting on a bench. Soon after, a witness informed authorities that he had seen Brittney speaking with an unidentified male operating a red or brown mid-size car. The witness was approached by Brittney, who informed him that she had “made a new friend.” Brittney vanished without a trace.
