Can you name a public figure whose quiet acts of kindness you admire?

The Swedish actor Stellan Skarsgård recently went viral.

It was due to his grumpy, depressed look at the Critics Choice Awards, while some young female actresses were posing for cheerful selfies right next to him. Skarsgård later explained that he was gloomy because of the food platter — the food was very bad, he said.

Skarsgård is famous for his love of food. In 2025, he worked on a Norwegian filn called Sentimental Value, and before shooting began, he explained he had often had an issue with film catering being insufficient or underwhelming. And he had enough of this, it happened to him too many times and it is bad for morale, he explained. So either the film would provide better lunches to not only the actors but to EVERY member of the crew, or Skarsgård wouldn’t sign up…

Mr. Skarsgård then personally took a major cut in his pay, reducing his own salary so everyone working on the film would have good food. Because Skarsgård loves good food, hates bad food, and believes no one should suffer the indignity of being forced to eat mediocre or bad food. And as someone who loves eating just about as much as I love breathing, I cannot help but love such a man.
