Back in the ER again. Soph’s belly has become very swollen

Mateo Elijah

Back in the ER again. Soph’s belly has become very swollen—tight like a drum—and tonight the doctors found a large amount of fluid in her abdomen. We still don’t know the cause. Her kidneys look okay for now, so we are waiting for blood test results.

We are hopeful she can go home tonight because she feels fine otherwise, but the emotional stress is hard. This bloating has been happening for years, always unexplained and never this bad, so seeing it like this is really upsetting. It always feels like something new.

Seven years of strong chemotherapy and clinical trials have taken a huge toll on her little body. This is exactly why we fight so hard for safer, better treatments. No child or family should have to go through this. This journey is not for the weak.

Prayers and positive thoughts are appreciated more than we can say.
