You were thrown in a pit full of snakes. How can you survive?

It’s actually not that challenging. Assuming you do not land ON the snakes, that is. If you land on a snake, it’s more than possible that it will immediately bite you, because after all, you just squashed it.

Now, I am assuming these are venomous snakes, because if not, you’re not in any danger anyhow. I haven’t seen more than the first few episodes of ‘Vikings,’ but I can tell you that there is only one venomous species in Scandinavia anyhow (the European viper).

Assuming you have not squashed or badly startled any snakes into biting you in the first 30 seconds of your arrival in the pit, then surviving is pretty easy. Just don’t move.

Snakes don’t attack people. They are purely defensive. They don’t want anything to do with you at all. They will not come after or chase you. They will only defend themselves if you threaten them. So hold perfectly still, and let the snakes all calm down.

Chances are, the snakes will calm, then move away from you. Once they’re out of range, you can probably carefully reposition yourself, and be prepared for a long wait with little movement. The longer you’re in there, the less danger you’ll be in, because they will slowly get used to your scent and warmth, and feel less threatened by you.

This is the stupidest thing a person could ever do with a venomous snake. Don’t do this. This is a Darwin Award candidate. Just don’t:

But it goes to show that a calm snake that doesn’t feel threatened by you isn’t going to kill you. Even a cobra.
