I’ve told a few stories of celebrities I have met. I am going to tell about a celebrity my roommate met that I was there to witness.
First off, I really couldn’t stand my roommate. Its been 35 years since we were roommates and I still look back and don’t like him.
So this was somewhere between 1988–1990. We (My roommate and I) were driving east on Sunset Blvd from Beverly Hills into West Hollywood. It was a Friday or Saturday night and the Sunset Strip was in full bumper to bumper cruising traffic mode.
All of the sudden my roommate jarringly blurts out at the top of his lungs MONICA QUARTERMAINE! He leaps out of the car and runs over to a woman sitting in traffic in a Saab convertible. My mind is spewing WTF’s? He is just standing at her car window chatting to this woman. After a minute or two she maneuvers through traffic and pulls off to the side of the road. I do the same thing.
It’s actress Leslie Charleson who plays Dr. Monica Quartermaine on the Soap General Hospital. She talked to my roommate for nearly 2 hours on the side of the road about acting and his desire to get into the business (He really didn’t know what he wanted, we were about 19 or 20 at the time) She was so sweet to him, so nurturing and she even gave him a number at the studio of how to reach her and she would introduce him to people that might be of assistance to him.
I don’t believe he ever reached out to her. And you know what? I don’t recall her even acknowledging my presence but hey, I’ve typed this much. Might as well hit POST!
