Which alums of Saturday Night Live have surprised you and gone on to have the most surprising post-SNL careers? Was it mainly because of luck or were they instead more talented than you thought?

Mateo Elijah

In the infamous “second cast” of SNL in the early 1980s was a young woman hired directly out of a college comedy troupe along with her future husband Brad Hall and their friend Gary Kroeger.

She didn’t impress anyone, got very little time on stage and faded into obscurity.

Until, of course, she landed the role of Jerry’s female friend on “Seinfeld”

And was teamed up with another SNL washout

He’s the guy on the far right, in this picture from his previous job on “Fridays”. You may recognize him better in this photo.

So! It appears an SNL writer, in this case Larry David, CAN actually write material for a talented female comic named Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

Louis-Dreyfus’s prime-time Emmy count currently stands at eleven (many with her as producer), along with 45 other awards and well over 100 award nominations.
