When the Greek invader Seleucus was defeated by Emperor Chandragupta Maurya

Mateo Elijah

When the Greek invader Seleucus was defeated by Emperor Chandragupta Maurya and his army was captured, he proposed the marriage of his beautiful daughter, Helen, to Emperor Chandragupta.

Helen was Seleucus’s youngest and most beautiful daughter. Upon receiving the marriage proposal, Acharya Chanakya arranged her marriage to Emperor Chandragupta.

However, before the marriage, he imposed certain conditions on Helen and Chandragupta, upon which they were married.

The first condition was that any child born from their union would not inherit his kingdom.

The reason given was that Helen was a foreign woman, had no connection to India’s ancestors, and was completely ignorant of Indian culture.

The second reason given was that Helen was the daughter of foreign enemies and her loyalty could never be with India.

The third reason given was that Helen’s son, being the son of a foreign mother, would never be able to free himself from her influence and would never be fully loyal to the Indian soil and the Indian people.

Another condition Acharya Chanakya placed before Helen was that she would never interfere in Chandragupta’s state affairs and would remain completely away from politics and administrative authority.

But Helen would have complete authority in his domestic life.

Consider… not only in India but across the world, there has never been another diplomat and great policymaker like Acharya Chanakya.
