In 2007, he purchased a barbecue at a storage locker auction.
He brought it home and was probably excited to get his first steak on the grill. He popped it open. To his shock and horror,
he found a severed human leg.
He immediately called 911 and told police what he was seeing.
Soon enough, the story made the local news, and things got even more strange when the previous owner of the leg came forward.
This is John Wood, amputee and birthright owner of the amputated leg:
John Wood had his leg amputated after a plane crash in 2004. He wanted to preserve it. There are different reasons listed on the internet as to why he wanted to keep it, so I’m not entirely sure what the real reason was. A bit strange if you ask me.
Now things would get weird.
Being the savvy entrepreneur that he was, Shannon Whisnant turned the bbq leg into a come one, come all paid attraction.
The police eventually confiscated the leg and then gave it to a funeral home.
John wanted his leg back, but Shannon felt as though he was the legitimate new owner because he paid for it.
Court battle ensued.
I believe Wood ended up winning in court. He came to pick up his leg and end the nonsense.
There was an entire goddamn documentary made about this event.
