Kutcher, in 2001, was a 23-year-old actor, dating 22-year-old Ashley Ellerin. He went to her house to pick her up for a date. He rang her doorbell several times. It did not ring. He waited. Called her. Waited some more. Then left, when he got no response…
What Kutcher didn’t know at the time was that Ashley wasn’t alone — an intruder, Michael Gargiulo, had broken into her house. And he was in the process of brutally murdering her as Kutcher stood there, ringing the bell, knocking on the door and calling for her. He had no idea that, as he was weirded out by his date being a no-show, she was falling victim to a serial killer later dubbed as the “Hollywood Ripper”.
Plenty of people have, sadly, been stood up for dates. But few are unfortunate enough to find out later on that when they thought they were being stood up, their date was actually being butchered only inches away from them, only a door between you and a deranged murderer… that’ll haunt a man for life.
