What are the main reasons doctors prefer to administer anesthesia before surgical prep, even if a patient insists on being awake?

Mateo Elijah

I’ve had more surgeries than I can accurately count. Something on the order of 20–25.

You know how many times I’ve had anesthesia BEFORE SURGICAL PREP?

ZERO.

Ten years of heart disease, appendix rupture, hernia repair, gallbladder removal, both knees, and currently in the ninth year of cancer treatments with multiple surgeries.

Let me repeat myself, ZERO.

Go ahead, try to stay awake during open heart surgery, or when they cut off 70% of your nose. Have fun. Please write how you convinced a surgeon that you need to be awake for surgery.
