Tonight, a 16-year-old boy is heading back to the hospital — not as a patient, but to help save his sister’s life. Again.
Many of you met Nevaeh back in November. She’s 15 and has been fighting AML leukemia with everything she has. She went through chemo, survived a bone marrow transplant, and for a short time, her family hoped the hardest part was over.
Then the cancer returned.
When it did, her big brother Christopher didn’t hesitate. He was her match and stepped up to help save her life.
Now, they are facing it again.
Nevaeh’s body isn’t recovering as doctors hoped. Her blood counts keep dropping instead of rising. Her platelets are dangerously low, needing transfusions several times a week just to prevent bleeding. Most concerning, her bone marrow isn’t making new blood cells on its own.
Tonight, Christopher is being admitted to the hospital. Doctors will place a central line in his neck to collect his T-cells. These cells will then be given to Nevaeh in a treatment called a donor lymphocyte infusion — giving her a chance at a new life, thanks to her brother’s selfless act.
What would you say to Christopher as he works to save his little sister’s life again? Let’s send both of them love, hope, and strength.
