This is one of the most UNREAL and INSANE combat stories to come out of Vietnam.

Mateo Elijah

Gary Wetzel was a Huey door gunner when his helicopter was ripped apart by RPGs and slammed into the ground.

He was thrown from the wreckage.

His left arm torn off.

His body shredded by shrapnel.

And a bullet in his leg.

Medically, he should have been dead.

Instead, Wetzel held off a massive NVA force for nearly 12 hours.

Refusing to let the enemy overrun the crash site.

He kept firing. Reloading with one hand. Throwing grenades. Directing medevac. Saving other wounded soldiers.

This wasn’t Hollywood. This was real.
And for his actions, Gary Wetzel was awarded the Medal of Honor.
