On February 25, 2016, a group of fishermen spotted a yacht drifting near the Philippine island of Mindanao.

When they looked inside, they saw something shocking — the mummified body of a man, still sitting in his chair.

The body was later identified as German adventurer Manfred Fritz Bajorat. It was completely hardened in a strange gray color, almost like ash. He was found next to the boat’s radio, and it is believed he had been trying to make a last distress call when he died.

No one knows exactly how long his body had been there, slowly mummifying as the boat floated at sea.
