My oldest son Joseph called me from college today

Mateo Elijah

“Mom, my friend and his mom are both sick. Can you bring them some food?” he asked.

This is the same boy who needed a special cushion to sit on in school.

He had awful handwriting and lost every pencil we bought him.

In fourth grade, he ran away from home.

When he was in high school, we weren’t sure if he’d graduate.

If you have a child who’s full of energy, the one who’s always moving, or a teenager who’s difficult, hang in there.

Raising kids is a lot like growing wildflowers.

Some need more care than others. Some need extra support or a special kind of environment. Some reach for the sun, soaking in all the warmth, while others prefer the shade.

But in time, they all bloom.

They all open up and share their unique beauty with the world.

In their own way, they all grow into good people.
