How was your first autopsy experience?

Mateo Elijah

During my 2nd year forensics classes, I witnessed my first autopsy.

A young, around 25–30 yr old chap committed suicide by hanging.

He was brought in on by a thela (the one hawkers use). We saw the police accompanying them, so we got a bit scared.

I was surprised how dead bodies are treated.

The person (not the doctor) just pulled the dead body out of the thela.

It smelled real bad.

DHADAAAM!! And the dead body fell on the floor.

Still lifeless.

A gush of blood came out of the nose.

Our sir commented.

“ The blood came out and hasn’t clotted yet, this is a cause of antemortem bruise, most probably due to fracture of floor of ethmoid bone “

Some one asked “ sir, how can there be skull fracture, if the person died by hanging “

Sir replied “ Haha, that’s the twist. He didn’t commit suicide. He was first murdered by hitting his skull with something blunt, most probably a hard punch, and then when he died, they hanged him, to frame it as a suicide “

We were shocked seeing sir’s deductive power. It’s like seeing Sherlock Holmes in action.

“lets open him up! “

Sir, took a hammer and chisel (not the actual term) and opened his skull. It opened like a suitcase, and we could clearly see the blood collected inside.

Then he opened up the stomach to look for any signs of poisoning, which weren’t any.

Each and every detail of the body was checked, and after 2 hours it was done.

“ Sir, so how did he die “

“ Well, it’s upto the police to decide, we will just report what we found “

LLater, we got to see.

  1. Snakebite death.
  2. Burn death.
  3. Several cases of poisoning.
  4. One VIP case that I can’t name.
  5. Several cases of drowning.
  6. We even saw one case, where the face was split in half after getting hit by an axe.
  7. Several cases of gunshot wound, from rifle, pistol, shotgun etc.
  8. Trust me, there were several cases where a brawl and hard hitting punches lead to death. So guys, please don’t use fists in a fight. (use kicks instead 😜)
  9. We even saw some of them in pathology. One of them was a not completely formed fetus, known as Acadiac twin. Something like this.
