As the 81-year-old woman was getting ready for bed, she said to her 83-year-old husband:
—Hey, I just looked out the window and I think the garage light is on. Could you get up and turn it off?
With great effort, the old man got up, opened the door, and went outside. He then saw three thieves trying to force their way into the garage. Without hesitation, he quickly went back inside and called the police.
Listen, write down my address. It’s just my wife and me here, and there are three thieves trying to break into the garage. Send a team immediately!
The operator replied calmly:
—We have your address on file. Don’t worry. We don’t have any patrol cars available right now. We’ll send someone as soon as we have a team available.
Frustrated, the old man continued watching from the window as the thieves struggled with the locks. Two minutes later, he dialed the emergency number again.
“Listen, there’s no need to send anyone else. I just shot the three robbers.”
Panic erupted at the police station. In less than five minutes, several patrol cars arrived with sirens blaring, a helicopter circled overhead, and paramedics, three doctors, and two ambulances were also on site. Officers stormed the building, subdued and handcuffed the criminals, who were still alive and stunned.
Later, the head of the operation approached the old man and asked him seriously:
—Did you say you shot them?
The old man calmly replied:
—And didn’t you say you didn’t have any equipment available?
