This is Binky, and that is a shoe trophy he’s carrying from a DUMB tourist who jumped two fences to get to him. Binky was an orphan and had therefor been around humans his whole life.

FYI for anyone curious, Binky was not killed or punished for attacking the tourists. One was an Australian lady who wanted a better picture, the other was a drunk teen who wanted to swim in Binky’s pool. Unfortunately Binky and his cage mate both died from some illness back in the 90s. The shoe was taken from Binky a couple of days later. Binky was an orphan, which is why he was in a zoo.
Alaskans came together in support of the bear insisting it wasn’t HIS fault, but the fault of the idiots jumping the fences. You can still sometime see Binky related items up here recently I saw a plywood cutout of a polar bear with a shoe.
