A Birthday Spent Fighting Illness

Mateo Elijah

My birthday boy isn’t having a good day. When he woke up this morning, he said he felt a little better, so we tried to make the day special for him. We took him out for lunch and let him pick out some new games. We told him he could go anywhere he wanted—it was his day, after all. But instead, he quietly asked if we could just go home so he could rest in bed.

This has been going on for a while now. I took him to urgent care on November 14, where they tested him for everything. All the results came back negative, but his throat looked very bad, so they prescribed a Z-pack. Even after finishing it, his cough and runny nose never went away. He’s still extremely tired, has occasional fevers, and only has short periods where he seems to feel okay.

On November 23, Josh took him to the ER. Josh asked them to run tests, but they didn’t. They said it was a bad ear infection and prescribed antibiotics. Josh explained that we couldn’t get him to take them, and unfortunately, we weren’t able to. His primary doctor can’t see him until January 12, which feels so far away when your child is sick. We do have another urgent care appointment scheduled for tomorrow evening.

I’m really hoping this doesn’t turn out the way it did last time. Back then, no one listened to us, and he ended up being hospitalized for five days. The fear of that happening again is heavy on my heart.

Please keep him in your prayers. We could really use them right now.
