What photo seems innocent but hides something indignant and revolting?

Mateo Elijah

This photo seems innocent, look like a man throwing water into a swimming pool as a joke? Or to clean up? Well, no, none of that.

In 1964, Horace Cort photographed James (aka Jimmy) Brock, owner of the Monsoor Motor Lodge (a hotel), throwing muriatic acid into a pool where black and white people were staying. The story is crazy: a week earlier, Martin Luther King had been arrested for trying to have lunch in the Monsignor’s whites-only restaurant; in response, activists took a dip in the whites-only pool and the owner said, “I’m cleaning the pool!” (I clean the pool).

Simply revolting.
